APPB-515 Osteoarthritis Gene Therapy Program
Disease-Modifying Osteoarthritis (DMOAD) Gene Therapy Program
Developing a Potential Disease-Modifying Therapy for Osteoarthritis
Applied Biologics is advancing a preclinical Disease-Modifying Osteoarthritis (DMOAD) Gene Therapy Program focused on developing innovative therapies designed to address the biologic processes that contribute to cartilage degeneration, joint deterioration, and disease progression.
Osteoarthritis is one of the most prevalent degenerative diseases worldwide and a leading cause of chronic pain, disability, and loss of mobility. Despite decades of research, currently available therapies primarily address symptoms rather than the underlying biologic mechanisms responsible for progressive joint degeneration.
Our objective is to develop a therapy capable of providing sustained biologic activity following a single administration while preserving joint structure and function.
Osteoarthritis affects millions of individuals worldwide and remains one of the largest unmet medical needs in musculoskeletal medicine.
As populations continue to age and remain active longer, the need for therapies capable of slowing or modifying disease progression continues to grow.
Applied Biologics believes gene therapy has the potential to fundamentally change the treatment paradigm by moving beyond symptomatic relief toward therapies intended to address the underlying disease process.
Scientific Approach
The APPB-515 Osteoarthritis Gene Therapy Program is founded on the belief that meaningful advances in osteoarthritis treatment will require therapies capable of modifying the underlying biology of disease rather than simply reducing pain.
Novel Therapeutic Approaches
Applied Biologics is applying expertise in molecular biology, gene therapy, translational research, and biologic product development to investigate novel therapeutic approaches designed to influence key pathways involved in progressive joint degeneration.
Preclinical Development
The program is currently in preclinical development and includes ongoing research focused on candidate optimization, assay development, biologic characterization, and translational studies supporting future clinical development.
Building the Future
The APPB-515 Osteoarthritis Gene Therapy Program represents an important expansion of Applied Biologics’ research pipeline beyond chronic wounds and into degenerative diseases.
While initially focused on osteoarthritis, the scientific knowledge and technologies developed through this program may provide opportunities to investigate additional diseases involving progressive degeneration of musculoskeletal tissues in the future.
Applied Biologics is committed to advancing innovative therapies through rigorous scientific development, disciplined preclinical research, and responsible clinical translation.
